COVID-19 and the Red Cross / St Paul Stake Blood Drives

Brethren & Sisters,

On June 15, the Red Cross began COVID-19 antibody testing on all donations. Donors can log into the donor app or the online portal to find out the results of their test. This is not a test for active infection, it's a test for antibodies which indicates that someone has been exposed to COVID-19 at some point. But it's good info to know and we hope it will encourage even more people to step up and give the gift of life!

Also, if someone tests positive for the antibodies, assuming they meet all other eligibility criteria, they could become a convalescent plasma donor and give plasma to help a patient who is currently fighting a COVID-19 infection!

The Red Cross is in urgent need for blood because hospitals have resumed surgeries that were postponed earlier this spring. The need has grown by 30% but donations are down.

We are still looking for donors for August and October. We don't have firm dates for either of those months yet but if you think you'd be available during one or both of those times, please let us know by emailing davidsonconsulting@comcast.net and putting "Blood Drive" in the Subject line.

You received this email because you made your email address available to your local Church leaders. It was sent by Robert Bunker, whose calling is Stake Executive Secretary.
