Hawton Funeral Service

Shingle Creek Ward

Shingle Creek Ward Family,

The following is shared with the permission of the Hawton family.

It is with heavy but grateful hearts for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Lowell Gene Hawton on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. He was born Saturday, August 12, 1944 to Clarence Howard and Esther Caroline (Becker) Hawton in Montevideo, Chippewa County, Minnesota. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Carole Lynn (Mixa) Hawton, children, Madelyn Anderson, Matthew, Michael, Martha Junsay, Mark, Mary Duncombe, Miriam, and Micah, their spouses, 30 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. As well as sister Marilyn (Hawton) Dooner, countless nieces and nephews and in-laws.

Above all, Lowell cherished his relationship with and love for Jesus Christ. His devotion to family was eternal. Lowell's love for his wife was a rare jewel in this world.

From his time as a small boy working the family farm in southern Minnesota to doing back-breaking work as a handyman and church custodian, Lowell worked. He worked hard at whatever he did in all aspects of his life. He also knew how to rest well. From spontaneous water fights to barefoot softball in the front yard to retelling silly family stories until the early morning hours. He loved to learn about everything and everyone. He sang with the Minnesota Saints Chorale & Orchestra. He served with a happy heart. He shared his testimony of Jesus at any opportunity.

Lowell's life spanned 78 years. During that time his life cast a wide net. Wherever he went he left his mark, he was always remembered, never forgotten. Though time will ease the void now left to family and friends, to all who knew him, he will always be remembered. He is forever sealed in our hearts, minds, and souls.
