Wednesday, February 22nd-Tasting with Winemaker Emily Haines from Terra D'Oro.

Terra d'oro Vineyards, Amador County, California

Emily graduated with a degree in biotechnology and biochemistry at Eastern Washington University. While working in a research lab she took a part-time stint in a tasting room. Seeing everything involved in the winemaking decisions appealed to her scientific mind, and she quit her steady job to try her hand at winemaking. She honed her skills at the Wahluke Wine Company in Washington, ultimately serving as director of winemaking for its Millbrandt Vineyards, where she earned a number of 90+ scores from top critics.

Terra d'Oro Pinot Grigio

The 2021 Pinot Grigio entices with aromas of ripe stone fruit, green apple, pear and honeydew, all accentuated by floral and mineral notes. On the palate, the wine enters with generous juicy stone fruit and honeydew melon, followed by a midpalate of fresh cantaloupe and a core of minerality leading to a long, elegant finish.

Terra d'Oro Chenin Blanc/ Viognier

The Terra d'Oro 2021 Chenin Blanc and Viognier blend is lively, refreshing and well balanced. Inviting aromas of honeydew melon, grapefruit, nectarine, orange blossom, tangerine and wet stone lead into flavors of peach and mango, followed on the midpalate by hints of lemon curd, quince and nectarine. Acid drives into a crisp, mineral finish. This wine is a beautiful complement to oysters on the half shell, pork, chicken and southeast Asian fare.

Terra d'Oro Barbera

Grown in northern Italy for more than 700 years, Barbera has been long celebrated for its role in Barbera d'Alba and Barbera d'Asti. Italian immigrants brought the variety in New World, where today it is often used in blended wines. But when grown here in the rolling hills of Amador, Barbera yields an elegant with layers of fruit and spice, worthy of being featured on its own.

Terra d'Oro Petite Sirah

The Terra d'Oro 2019 Petite Sirah is quintessential Amador County, with its rich, powerful flavor. The nose boasts aromas of blackberry, leather, smoke, salinity and fruit leather before giving way to violets, vanilla bean and mint notes. The palate is focused and captivating with mixed berry fruit leather, spiced pastry crust, and blue fruit. The flavors are complemented by juicy tannins and a long, lingering finish.

Terra d'Oro Zinfnadel

The 2019 Terra d'Oro Amador County Zinfandel displays the classic characteristics unique to this region. Enticing aromas of cacao, raspberry jam, clove, cedar, anise, orange zest, Rainier cherry, and warmed cream. This wine boasts an elegant entry with warming spices, pomegranate, and black currant before leading to a savory finish with juicy, round tannins. Pair this wine with eggplant parmesan or grilled lamb skewers with a blackberry reduction.

Terra d'Oro Moscato

Inviting aromas of honey, white peach, honeysuckle, pineapple and lemon zest lead into vibrant flavors of Meyer lemon, pineapple and a hint of anise. The wine has a pleasing viscosity on the palate and finishes with fresh acidity. This makes the Terra d'Oro Moscato extremely versatile and enjoyable with a meal as well as after it. Try it with a spicy Asian Cuisine or a fruit tart.

Terra d'Oro Zinfandel Port

Terra d'Oro Zinfandel Port's amazing aromas evoke raisined berry fruit, candied dates, caramel, dark chocolate and orange peel. Rich flavors of cocoa, toffee, raisin and coffee follow through to a full-bodied, medium-sweet palate with a long finish.
