2020 Multi-Stake Food Drive Report and Thank You! - Note Sent on Behalf of our Stake Communications Council

Dear Brothers, Sisters, Friends and Neighbors,

We would like to thank you all for the wonderful service that was provided to those in need within our community at a critical time in partnership with The Food Group in New Hope, Minnesota from December of 2020 through February of 2021.  The Food Group serves 150-180 food shelves in Minnesota and Wisconsin.  It was a great success!!

Flyers, posters, and bags were delivered December 14th to friends, neighbors and church members. We were asked to donate, Flour, Rice, Vegetable oil, Tuna, Pasta, Peanut Butter, Canned Tomatoes and Canned Mandarin Oranges. All types of food were accepted and used.

We recognize the success many members had in sharing the invitation to Come and Serve during the Food Drive with your friends and neighbors who participated in overwhelming ways.  Many of those dropping off carloads of food noted most of it came from their neighbors and friends.  We are also overwhelmed by the generosity to all those who participated in giving food, time, coordination, and other help to this event.

On December 19th thousands of pounds of food were delivered to the Crystal and Brooklyn Park chapels. Packed cars, vans and trucks drove up to the chapels with bags and bags of food to donate. People were anxious to help and donate to others during this corona virus pandemic and Christmas Season.  Our barrels and totes were overflowing. We needed to get additional totes, barrels and an extra semi-truck to transport all the food to The Food Group. The next week, 3 semitrucks picked up and delivered our donation to The Food Group.

Our Food Drive did not end there!  A week later we had youth come and sort food for 2 hours that was not able to fit in appropriate barrels or totes. Due to the pandemic, The Food Group was only able to allow 14 volunteers at a time in their warehouse.

On January 11th we had 2 packing sessions with members of the Anoka and Minneapolis Stakes.  On Feb.1, we had 2 additional 2 hour packing sessions with church members.  On Feb. 11th The Food Group then had local National Honor Society members and community volunteers pack for 3 additional sessions. We had a total of 1 sorting session and 7 packing sessions!

Each box that was packed to be delivered to a family included: one bag of flour, one bag of rice, one vegetable oil, 2 cans of tuna, one bag of pasta, one jar of peanut butter, 2 cans of tomatoes, and 2 cans of mandarin oranges. Each box had a sticker stating that it was donated by The Anoka and Minneapolis Stakes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and The Food Group.

Hundreds of additional pounds of these foods that were of a variety of sizes and hundreds of pounds of different types of foods that were donated were also given to The Food Group to be sent to food shelves.

Over 100,000 meals were delivered.

The Richard M. Schultz foundation also matched portions of our donation that was given to The Food Group but not used for buying or boxing food at this time.

Our service was publicized by The Sun Post, CCX media, The Food Group and The Church News.

You all deserve a round of applause. Thank you.
